Shining a Spotlight on Dr. Precious Jemison
Dr. Precious Jemison is a proud product of the Charleston County School District and a dedicated educational leader committed to student success and academic excellence. She began her career in education in 2019 as a teacher and coach at R.B. Stall High School, where she taught while coaching multiple sports. She later served as an educator at Buist Academy for two years before returning to R.B. Stall High School to continue her work with students and staff.

The Time for South Carolina’s Hate Crime Law Is Now
We had the bittersweet privilege of meeting Mr. and Mrs. Shawn and Monica Williams on two separate occasions in June. The first meeting took place at South Carolina State Representative Wendell Gilliard’s campaign fundraising event held at C&W Super Buffet in North Charleston on June 5, 2026. The second occurred during a community discussion on House Bill H.3039, South Carolina’s proposed Hate Crime Law, held on June 23, 2026, at North Charleston City Hall.

Colleton County Superintendent Jessica Williams retires after 41 Years
Colleton County Superintendent, Jessica Williams retires after 41 years of service. Williams was born in Walterboro and later returned to her roots. Williams earned a BA degree in music, and later her Master’s degree from the Citadel. She rose through the ranks as an assistant principal, principal director of elementary education, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction and superintendent.

USDA Summer Meal Program
There are many organizations in South Carolina that are providing free healthy meals to children throughout the summer months. During the school year, many children receive a free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Program. When schools let out, many children are at risk of going hungry.

Berkeley County Summer Cafe Returns for Breakfast and Lunch
The summer program will run from June 8 through July 24. Hot meals will be served Monday through Friday each week. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
