In the last article, we looked at the first five (5) steps of resolving conflict outlined by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). Now, let’s look at the final five (5) steps of resolving conflict.

There is a growing debate underway about the future of fishing in the United States. While it is being shaped in Washington, D.C., its consequences will be felt in coastal communities, small businesses, and households across the country.

We are now ready to learn how to learn methods of resolving conflict. These efforts will take time and practice, but if you put your mind to it, you will see success. The first steps in moving towards resolving the conflict are as follows:

Let’s evaluate conflict by understanding the three categories: Avoidance, Diffusion, and Confrontation. In each of these categories, there are outcomes, some positive and some negative.

In Thomas F. Crum’s book, “The Magic of Conflict” he states, “Resolving conflict is rarely about who is right. It is about acknowledgement and appreciation of differences”. The next few articles will deal with how conflict develops, the two levels of conflict, ways we deal with conflict, and acknowledging that conflict can sometimes be a good thing.
